About Dr. Jose Andres Vila, Psy.D
Dr. Jose Vila, a distinguished Mindset Coach, invites you to delve into the depths of your belief system. Embrace the journey of challenging and reshaping the very thoughts that hinder your personal and professional aspirations.
Born in Cuba, I began my professional journey by graduating from the University of Havana Medical School in 1993 and subsequently practicing as a physician at Manuel Fajardo Hospital. After moving to Chicago, I transitioned into education and worked as a Biology professor at The City College of Chicago for a decade. In 2020, I expanded my expertise by earning a Doctoral Degree in Clinical Psychology from Adler University in Chicago.
Drawing from my rich background, I have accrued valuable experience as a therapist at various esteemed institutions, including Illinois Masonic Hospital Behavioral Health Center, The Family Institute at Northwestern University, and The University of Chicago Student Counseling Center, among others. Currently, I serve as a psychotherapist at Wellman Psychology and Associates, where I am dedicated to fostering a safe and inclusive environment for clients to embark on a transformative journey of self-discovery and personal growth. My approach hinges on establishing a collaborative and egalitarian relationship with clients, underscoring the significance of empathy, respect, and trust in facilitating meaningful change.
I find immense fulfillment in working with individuals across various age groups and backgrounds, including children, adults, college students, older adults, and members of the LGBTQ community, offering them specialized Mindset Coaching services. My passion lies in assisting clients who are navigating challenges such as ADHD, trauma, depression, anxiety, substance abuse, life transitions, relationship issues, and medication management. Drawing from my own experiences as a Black Latino immigrant, I have chosen the path of a therapist/Mindset Coach, allowing me to deeply understand and appreciate cultural diversity. Being a person of color and an immigrant myself, I take pride in guiding and supporting individuals, especially those who share similar backgrounds, towards personal growth and development.
